Young musicians play all the right notes............and in the right order!!!

Friday 19th January 2024

Before an audience of several hundred including Rotary Distric Governor, Anne Bartholomew, and the Deputy Lord Mayor of Bristol, Councillor Paula O'Rouke, the young musicians, average age 14 years, performed outstandingly to deliver a classical concert of variety and skill.

The six musicians were

* Lisa Steger, a Swiss exchange student based at the Wells Cathedral School, who played the recorder.

*Emelia Eggers, violin, who attends Redmaids High School, our hosts for the evening.

*Jacob Yudkin, a student of the Queen Elizabeth's Hospital School on the oboe.

*Vera Hsuan, violin, a student of Clifton College.

*Eli Massey on Bassoon. She is also a student of the Wells Cathedral School together with

*Alexander Stejskal who plays the violin. What a fantastic school orchestra they must have!

The three adjudicators headed by international concert pianist, Allan Schiller, found determining the three winners to be an onerous task. After much consideration they awarded the first prize to 13 years old Vera (pictured below) who, with her accompanist had thrilled us with her renditions by Bach, Wieniawski and Franck. Since the age of 5 years she has played 4 other instruments and we would not be surprised to hear her performing on a different one of those in future competitions.

Runners-up were Eli and Alexander and all were thanked by the judges for outstanding performances and given rapturous applause by the appreciative audience.

Note their names! You will surely see more of them through the coming years.
