Search and Rescue Assistance in Disasters - SARAID

Wednesday 18th May 2022

Based at Yate Fire Station, fireman and rescue worker, Paul Incledon, gave us a high impact presentation on the work of SARAID. Using many dramatic photographs to support his talk he captured his audience in describing the work of the highly skilled volunteers who are prepared to fly to any part of the world to help in the search and rescue of victims of earthquakes, tsunami, floods or whatever else causes a large-scale disaster.

Staffed entirely by volunteers and funded solely by public donations, they are on call 365 days a year, always to provide trained and equipped personnel, free of charge, wherever in the world it is needed.

SARAID members are drawn from all walks of life including firefighters, paramedics, doctors, structural engineers as well as office workers and builders. They do however have a common attribute, that is the desire and determination to help the innocent victims of disaster.

During the 12 years of its’ existence the team has worked in many countries including Lebanon (Beirut), Sri Lanka, Mexico, Haiti, Nepal, Algeria, Mozambique, Indonesia, Turkey, Moldova and Albania plus many more in an ever-growing list.

Paul’s enthusiasm for undertaking such emotional and dangerous work was infectious and clearly shared by all members of the team. They are definitely worthy of our support, gratitude and respect.
