The club hosted a great fun evening of pub skittles for staff and students from the University accompanied by Joe Foote (pictured in a pensive mood watching one of his students play) and his wife, Jody, this was the latest visit of many made over the last 50 years during which several of our older members have visited them in the USA.
Fifteen students, unusually for this event, 14 of them being young women, plus one of their tutors, Ralph and his wife Dorian, pulled in a visit to Bristol as part of a wide-ranging media studies course around the UK.
The evening commenced with over 30 of those present joining in on a skittles match, the two teams being mixed at random and also including our Japanese resident student at Bristol University, Rai.
After much discussion about the differences between 10 pin bowling and skittles a lively competion commenced with some of the 'first-timers' scoring outstandingly well considering that they had just been introduced to some quality Bristol beers
.
The game was followed by a first class buffet provided by the Eastfield Inn whilst very animated and friendly conversations were taking place at all tables. Joe proposed a very moving and passionate toast to Her Majesty the Queen on celebrating her Platinum Jubilee and Members of Clifton Club members were presented with University T-shirts.
All-too-soon the evening was over and our guests climbed aboard their bus en route to their next destination, Windsor Castle.
