We were particularly interested in his theory that most chronic illnesses were inflicted by something in our own lifestyles. However, MDs do not have the time to investigate every patient's everyday activities and life circumstances and so he developed a self-help diagnosis program to overcome this problem. In his latest book, The Health Fix, he recommends that you
*IDENTIFY what you would like to do (like taking up running; stopping smoking)
*DEFINE one or two small changes you can make (e.g.running to work instead of walking, deciding to leave the house without cigarettes)
*ENGAGE by preparing and controlling your environment to make changes easy (e.g. set out your running kit the night before)
*ACTIVATE yourself by sticking your new habit(s)on to an existing one, or use them to replace a bad one (e.g.running straight after work)
*LOOK BACK at yourself in the mirror in the morning and say 'Hey, you did it, well done!
He continued his talk in language that we all understood with examples such as a leaky bathroom shower causing wet walls and ceilings in the floor below, causing water to get into the house electrics with potential fire or shock risks, and leading to erosion of the foundations with possible implications to the stability of the building itself. He suggested that some relatively minor medical condition if left un-diagnosed and resolved could potentially cause a debilitating unrelated chronic sickness.
This totally absorbing talk came to an abrupt end when the zoom call timed-out, was restored for a few minutes of questions and answers and a general pleading by Dr Panga's audience for him to pay us an actual visit to tell us more about his revolutionary medical treatments.
All-in-all a most interesting talk on the subject we are all obsessed with.....OUR HEALTH
