Children are in crisis. Insecurity brought on by social media, mental health problems, misogyny, knife crime and loneliness is making the teenage years increasingly difficult to navigate. Hope's Place's facilitators run ten-week courses in Secondary and Primary Schools across Bristol helping small groups of young people to develop healthy relationships and make positive life choices. We also run popular "Aspire" courses helping year 6 pupils prepare for the transfer to secondary school.
From its origins as a charity offering help around pregnancy, Hope’s Place has moved into its current role offering courses to youngsters who are struggling with challenges and failing to engage fully with school or society, or are simply not fulfilling their potential. Frequently children who have habitually stayed away from school will attend simply because of the Hope’s Place course.
They believe:
- That no person or situation is without HOPE
- That all individuals are equal, unique and valuable and that difference should be celebrated
- That everyone is worthy of respect and should respect others
- That resilience is key
- That healthy and positive relationships are essential
- That with greater confidence young people are inspired to take their rightful PLACE in the world/society/community and fulfil their potential
Many thanks Tony for a truly inspiring talk which will remain in our memories for a long while to come.
